The Bert Weir Memorial Commission
$500 to be awarded to a Canadian composer for a 7-15 minute work for community orchestra that explores the interface between music and the work of a Northern Ontario Artist.
The work should be playable by an intermediate level Community String Orchestra and may or may not include community choir and/or a small wind section or a soloist. It will be premiered by Whispering River Orchestra on June 27, 2020 at the Bert Weir Memorial Day as part of the annual Riversongs Festival of Music, Poetry and Art in Parry Sound, ON.

Send a letter of proposal containing an up-to-date resume, scores for 2 previous works, audio material if available (YouTube links acceptable) describing the concepts behind the proposed work (200 words max) to

Applications close on January 15th, 2021. Judges’ decisions are final.
Applicants will be informed no later than April 15 of their commission.
The commissioned work must be completed by May 24, 2020.
